What if invitees forward the invitation to other people who arent on the original send out list?

The easiest thing to do would be to use the Marketo Forward to a Friend Token. If someone clicks the link they can fill in their "friend's" info. Only problem is, it gets annoying if the partner wants it to go to more than 1 or 2 people.

When somone forwards your Marketo email from their inbox it can mess with the tracking of that lead's engagement in reports.

If you know you have partners that want to send it out again, I would coordinate with them directly. I recommend giving them the HTML of your email except with a special parameter on all links [something like "partner=companyname"]. The parameter value can then be captured on a form field or page view with the Querystring contraint.

 

@Carolyn D In addition to @Max S's points, if this is a common need, you can include that supplementary link in emails to your partners with the special mktNoTok class as well as a parameter like @Max suggests like "&partner=<companyname>".  

These links can be forwarded without messing around -- well, not too much -- with the original lead's record in the database. The initial click on the link will still be tracked in the context of the original lead (which may be what you want) but once they hit the actual landing page they will be anonymous and ready for new tracking via form fillout, etc.

One important thing to note is that all recipients who recieve "forward to a friend" emails, are automatically set to "unsubscribed = true" in Marketo.  So if they do register for an event and you have a confirmation email as part of that campaign flow, they won't receive it unless you change their unsubscribe status.
