I'm most interested in customer on-boarding and up-sell demand generation.

What books do you recommend?

I think Marketo is starting a book club - maybe there will be something there.  Maybe contact Liz Courter for more info on this?

For demand gen - some of the best books are:

Welcome to the Funnel - Jason Miller

Lead Generation for Dummies - Dayna Rothman

Maximizing Lead Generation - Ruth P. Stevens

Lead Generation for the Complex Sale - Brian Carroll

Predictable Revenue - Aaron Ross

eMarketing Strategies for the Complex Sale - Ardath Albee

Selling to Big Companies - Jill Konrath

Enjoy!

For Demand Gen, I'd add Manufacturing Demand by David Lewis.

This book is an oldie but a goodie - for anyone in any organization:

Peter Drucker's
The Effective Executive: The Definitive Guide to Getting the Right Things Done.
