Using unsubscribe link in a non marketo email?

His/her email was probably there due to the Marketo cookie; there is no way to get the email address from an Outlook email unless the user already has a cookie on their machine.

The link you could use is: http://[[your CNAME here]]/UnsubscribePage.html?mkt_unsubscribe=1 ...try that and see if it works.

You can just go to Admin > Sales Insight > Unsubscribe Settings to turn this on automatically.

Hi - can I clarify something - are the "sales emails" you are sending out being sent by Marketo Sales Insight in Salesforce? Or are you talking about emails sent from somebody's Outlook or something? I'd like to get a better idea of the scenario we are dealing with here.

Veronica, the emails are being sent from outlook not Marketo.  I tried Jason's suggestions above and looks like the email was added to Marketo and also unsubscribed.  Is this a good way to handle?

Jessica, did you ever find a solution to this.  We, too, provide our sales teams with some of our marketing emails so that they can send to their customers.  This is completely separate from Marketo - no Sales Insight and we don't use SFDC (we use MS Dynamics).  The URL approach that Jason suggested works fine, as long as the user has been cookied before and is known within Marketo.  For example, they will see something like this:


But if they're not known, the email address will be blank and Marketo will not know who to unsubscribe.  I wish there was a way to create some logic here - e.g., if KNOWN is false, send the user to an unsubscribe page that has a text field where their email address can be entered.

Has anyone found a solution to this? I need to create an opt out link for non marketo emails where the recipient may or may not be cookied by Marketo already.
