Updation in Marketo through different Webpage

Hi,

We have a webpage(not a Marketo landing page) and we need the data that is collect in the backend when someone submits that form should update Marketo.
How can we do that and what are the pros and cons of web hooks or API.
For API which document should I give to my web team?

I'm also very interested in how we might be able to collect data submitted in a Marketo form on the back end. There was a use case in one of the sessions during Marketo Summit where a corporate travel company collected referrals from their current customers. I can't remember the name of the presenter, though, but she was very good.
