Unsubscribed Data

I have recieved conflicting information regarding if Marketo stores our unsubscribes permantly, allowing us to delete them in our database and not pay for storing these records? I've heard it described if a matching email re-enters the database it would be automatically marked as unsubscribed?

Appreciate clarification on this topic.

Hi Pamela,

It seems that you are correct.  According to this discussion thread, if you do delete an unsubscribed record from your database and they reenter with the same email address, they will be marked as unsubscribed (in the thread, this is described as Durable Unsubscribe, though the page that describes this seems to have an error).

One thing to keep in mind, is that if someone fills out a form of some type, they're likely re-opting-in, so you will need to create rules to change their unsubscribe preference at this point.

Thank you. Performed test to ensure this works.  And yes, we have a subscription center - so I will make sure and set up a program to get opt-in if an unsubscribe re-engages with us :)

Thank you all.
