Unique Identifier for people in Marketo

I would like to know if the email address can be replaced with the Marketo ID or any other field as the unique identifier in Marketo.

What is the use case for replacing the e-mail address? If you need a different unique identifier for a project, the Lead ID is always going to be a unique identifier.

Well, Email Address isn't the unique identifier in Marketo to begin with. Unlimited records can have the same Email Address.

Yes, the field is used as the lookup key for many (though not all) points of entry into Marketo. But it's by no means unique.

As @jacksi1 says, we need the full background to your question. Describe your business and/or technical requirements in detail, rather than jumping to specific lingo like "unique identifier".
