Trigger email to a lead when another lead is added to a custom object

Not sure if this is possible but I'm looking to trigger an email without using an API. I'm looking to set up a campaign to send an email notification to a lead when another lead is added to a custom object.

Is there any way this can be done?

You can use Send Alert for this kind of cross-lead communication -- depending on where the alert recipient's address is stored.
