Translate contact properties

I have a mail that will be segmented based on language. In the mail we use contact values like {{industry}}

How can I translate those values from a contact?

For example I have a field holding the contacts industry, the value is stored in English (at input), but the output needs to be in Dutch or French, depending on the language of the contact.

Can I use something like translation tables? Or should I use a 2nd field at entering holding the translation for the selected item?
