Traffic cop vs. engagement program?

At my old company, we used traffic cop. 

New company, new Marketo implementation, contemplating switching to engagement program. 

The lack of cadence control could make it a no-go, but just looking for feedback from those who swiitched from traffic cop to engagement program. Any pitfalls? Joys?
