Tracking Not Working On Certain Domains

I have had some issues with one of my domains only tracking me and no other visitors.  So, I created a page with one line of text and the munchkin code and place it in two different locations.  On one (which is the domain where it seems to track everyone) it works and on the other domain (the one where it only ever tracks me) it doesn't (just me again).  It doesn't matter who I get to visit the page and from where they connect from it only ever works on one domain.  Any ideas anyone?

Is there a reason that you split the code in half? it seems to me that half of the munchkin is in your header & the other is just before the body tag. I have always just used the munchkin code as the last thing on my page before the closing html tag.

Perhaps this contributes to this? I'd just recopy from the munchkin page in admin | https://app-sjh.marketo.com/#MS0A1

Tracking will work on every domain, but a lead has to be cookied for each domain separately. So if you have Domain1 and everyone's cookied for it, and Domain2, you will need a registration form or tagging email campaigns in order to ensure that Domain2 is cookied.

I have 4 sites. I only track one. When I view my web activity reports for my HRM website, because they is no form on the site, no one ever gets cookied. So all my reports are anonymous leads.

If you're saying that your leads aren't being tracked at all, no visits, then create a ticket for support.

Adam are you saying domain2 is tracking Ian because he is cookied from domain1, but the other visitors aren't cookied?

Adam is right, the leads on domain2 wil remain anonymous until they click a tracked link or fill out a form.
The leads are then merged and tracked across both domains.

@Steven - not because he's cookied on domain1, but because he's either gotten a marketo email for domain2 or filled out a form on domain2.

I can see what you are saying about the cookie / anonymous visit but what I cant work out is why the same page tracks on one domain and not the other (even if it  was anonymously).  The code is running ok so I am not sure what else could be wrong.  Have been going round in circles a bit....

Hey Ian - help us help you, share the two URLs so we can look at the code.

And you say it is the same page twice? Are you aware that hosting identical content on two domains can reduce your SEO?

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your help on this.  Re the SEO points, these are just a couple of test pages to try and work out why it is not working on the geniune pages.  Therefore there is no actual content here.

There are 3 pages:

http://www.myleaseplan.co.uk/_marketo-test.htm
http://www.easiertoleaseplan.co.uk/_marketo-test.htm
http://www.leaseplan.co.uk/_marketo-test.htm

The middle one (easiertoleaseplan.co.uK) seems to work ok and they all run the code but the other two just wont track.

Any insight you can provide would be great.

Ian, in principle using Firebug or Chrome's Developer Tools will display three cookies (one for each domain).
Even though the Munchkin ID is identical the cookies remain domain-specific.

Try sending an email containing the three links or just add a form to input the email address.

Thanks Adam, I will take a look at that.  What's interesting is that the Firefox Developer tools seem to show it working but somehting is obviously not quite right.
