Track Test Emails Sent

Is there anyway to track, or report on, test emails sent?

We send out test emails to double check everything looks great, but I'd like to also use these as insight into how attention grabbing they are. Are those receiving the test emails clicking on the links? Which ones do they click on first? Is one link getting more results than another?

Please respond if you know how to, if possible, track test emails.

Hey Amanda, if the emails are being sent via the "Send Test" feature, then this isn't possible. If you want to track the engagement then I would suggest sending them to your seed list through an actual smart campaign. There are also some features such as Forward to a Friend which don't work in test sends, so this is something to keep in mind.

Hi Amanda,

It depends on how you are sending the test emails.

  • If you use the "send sample" function in emails, no they will not be tracked.
  • If instead you create a test list in Marketo, which you populate with some leads who are in fact testing persons, and then you use a "send email" flow step to send the email to these people, then the emails and their clicks will be tracked as any other lead. One hard point, though, is that your tests clicks will also appear in email statistics.

There are a couple of ideas on how this could be enhanced.  For instance :
