Track a URL

We are sending out content to our Network and want to make a URL in that contact trackable on the Marketo side. Ideally we would like to see how it is performing and measure it but since we are not sending the content and it is in a digital magazine we can only measure clicks.

What is the best way to set this up? I understand we will need to add Munchkin tracking code to the link(website page) which I am not sure we can do in time. Is there any other way to gather some sort of reporting.

You will need to have the munchkin tracking code on the landing page to track activity on that page.  Otherwise, you will not get data from it.

If you are sending the email from Marketo you will get data on all of the people that clicked the link and went to the page at least.

If you aren't sending the content from Marketo and don't have the Munchkin tracking code on your landing page, you won't be able to run reports in Marketo. You'll have to rely on Google Analytics for traffic reports (assuming this is set up). but you won't get the "who" unless your Network provides you with a CSV of clicks after the fact, and you won't be able to tie a specific click to a specific person. You'd be able to import them to a Static List with a Program Status after the fact, but you won't have analytics to compare.

Hi Tara - if you cannot set up munchkin in time perhaps try using utm codes to get a bit of detail.  URL builder - Analytics Help  Read through this as well pedowitzgroup.com/how-to-track-utm-parameters-in-marketo/  We have smart lists set up with utm sources as filters and it gives us quite a bit of detail.

UTM codes are awesome, but if the Munchkin isn't on the landing page and the content isn't being sent via Marketo, they won't be captured and tied to a lead. They'll be great for sorting in GA, though.
