Tracing a 'From' email address?

Hi there,

We have an occasional issue where an email comes to an all-purpose inbox ('admissoins@...') but the From: email address is somehow being routed through that same email address (i.e. From john@johndoe.com To :john@johndoe.com.) We have no idea who sent it or how to reply back to them.  Any suggestions on how we might be able to find the original sender's email address?

Just to clarify:

- you send emails using john@johndoe.com as sent-from/reply-to

- somehow you get emails sent to this inbox john@johndoe.com, coming from that same email john@johndoe.com

Am I reading it right? This is very odd, can you go to one of those emails, check message header Message headers - Gmail Help​ and post a screenshot in here?

This sounds like it could have something to do with your Mail settings in microsoft exchange
