Stopping Echo Emails in Wait Step

Hi Team,

We have set up a smart campaign where the initial launch email is sent, followed by a wait step of X days, and then an echo email is sent to non-openers.

In case we need to stop the echo email after the initial send — for example, if plans change while contacts are still in the wait step — what would be the correct way to prevent the echo email from sending? I don’t see a direct option to cancel it, so could you please guide me on the best approach?

Regards,
Akshat

Thanks @Darshil_Shah1 for sharing this.

Just to confirm so I understand this clearly — where exactly do I need to add the Remove from Flow step?

Do I need to create a new smart campaign? If yes, what should the Smart List criteria be?

If not, I’m unsure how this would work in the existing campaign, since the flow is already running and contains two Send Email steps — one for the initial launch (which has already executed) and another for the echo.

I’m a bit confused and trying to understand the correct approach to achieve this. Could you please clarify?

You can use Remove from Flow flow step to remove people from this campaign while they're in the Wait step. Doing this will remove the people currently in the campaign flow, preventing them from progressing through the next flow step (Send Email in your case).

Yes, you'd need a new Smart Campaign for this -- its criteria would be Member of Smart Campaign <your email send campaign> or any other criteria that'd qualify a set of people whom you want to remove from the campaign.

Alternatively, you can run this (Remove from Flow) as a single flow step action; you'd need to select people who're currently in the campaign (this'd be easier if you have a list used to enroll people in the campaign in the first place).

Running Remove from Flow is a good move if people don’t need to do anything after Step 3.

But note that isn’t the only way to get them to skip the Send Email step. You could also add a choice to Step 3 that requires them to have/not have an Interesting Moment or be in/not in a Static List, for example. Then manage those IMs/memberships from a separate campaign. You could even use those choices on a Remove from Flow step placed before Step 3 in the same campaign. In general, we like to see why/when someone exited a flow rather than having them magically disappear!

@SanfordWhiteman

Thank you for your feedback. I’m a little confused about the points below and would appreciate some clarification.

You mentioned that running Remove from Flow is a good move if people don’t need to do anything after Step 3. You also suggested using choices on a Remove from Flow step before Step 3 in the same campaign.

My question is around situations where we didn’t initially know that we would need to stop the echo send. For example, if at a later stage we decide that the echo email is no longer required, how would the Remove from Flow step help in that scenario if it wasn’t planned in advance?

I may be misunderstanding the setup, so it would be helpful if you could explain how this would work in such cases.

Thanks again for your guidance.

It doesn’t need to be planned in advance. If you add the Remove From Flow step while people are in the Wait, when they exit the Wait they’ll enter the conditions for RFF.
