Stop Marketo from creating deleted leads in Salesforce

Hi all,

So we need to delete some leads from SFDC but want to keep them in Marketo because they're subscribed to a high value newsletter that is sent every month from Marketo.

Just wanted to confirm if anyone has done something like this? I've done some research and found out about "Custom Sync Rules" from Marketo to SFDC, is this the answer to my query? Or is there anything I'm missing? We only want those leads to be in Marketo and not in SFDC.

These are the articles I've been looking at:

Instructions for Creating a Custom Sync Rule

"Sync with Marketo" mysteries part 1 by Grégoire Michel

"Sync with Marketo" mysteries part 2 by Grégoire Michel

Thanks!!

HI @chalo ,

Once you delete leads in SDFC those leads are still available in marketo. In marketo “SFDC Is Deleted” flag is set to true.

You can then use this as a filter to stop your specific leads from re syncing to SFDC.

https://experienceleague.adobe.com/en/docs/marketo/using/product-docs/crm-sync/salesforce-sync/sfdc-sync-details/sfdc-sync-deleting-a-lead-contact#:~:text=Marketo%20Engage%20doesn't%20automatically,delete%20in%20Marketo%20if%20desired.

Hope this helps! 😊

To be clear, even with SFDC Is Deleted set to true, Marketo will sync people if they happen to go through an implicit sync process. For example, being a member of a Marketo Program that’s synced to an SFDC Campaign.
