Statuses in Salesforce Campaigns and Marketo Programs

I have a Marketo program and a Salesforce campaign for our prospecting efforts, but it's not synced at the program level. I have sync steps like "Add to SFDC Campaign" or "Change Status in SFDC Campaign running."

Since I am not synced at the program level, do I need to have the Marketo and SFDC Campaign statuses be the same?

Our sales reps want some more detailed info for campaign statuses that don't seem too necessary to know in Marketo.

Since they are not synced, then they don't need to be the same, but you will need to add two flow steps to each of your "change status" type flows - Change Status in SFDC Campaign AND Change Program Status. Otherwise your numbers will differ between SFDC & Marketo!
