Staggered email schedule for smart lists

Hi All,

Marketo newbie here, just wondering if there is a way to stagger emails to a smart list. I am working on a large data set for a client that they will use to create a set of 20+ smart lists for each target country in the campaign, is there a simple way to periodically release emails to a list so that it has less of a negative impact on the sender as far as bounce rates and IP listing goes?

Tony,

There is no way to automate "email throttling" as of right now. But what you can do is use a smart campaign and qualify all of these smart lists' leads. The flow will be:

1. Send Email 1

     Choice 1: If member of smart list 1

     Default: Do Nothing

2. Wait 10 minutes

3. Send Email 1

    Choice 1: If member of smart list 2

     Default: Do Nothing

4. Wait 10 minutes

...and so on

This is assuming no leads are in multiple smart lists or they will receive the email more than once. If leads are in multiple smart lists, you can put a "Remove from flow" flow step after each "Send Email" step and if the lead was sent the email, they will be removed from the rest of the flow:

1. Send Email 1

      Choice 1: If member of smart list 1

     Default: Do Nothing

2. Remove from flow

    Choice 1: If was sent Email 1

     Default: Do Nothing

3. Wait 10 minutes
