Smart Campaign Abort

After Email 1 was delivered and the campaign was aborted, we’re now looking to resume the same campaign to send the remaining emails. However, using “Run Now” doesn’t seem to restart the campaign from where it left off. Is there a way to configure it so that the campaign continues from the point where it was stopped?

Once a campaign is aborted in Marketo, it's unfortunately terminated immediately, and there's no built-in way to "resume" it from where it left off. Clicking "Run Now" will not pick up the campaign from the point it stopped — it simply runs the flow from the top for anyone who qualifies again at that moment.

 

Marketo also doesn’t keep track of where individual people were in the flow when the campaign was stopped.

 

Here's a workaround you can try:
In your flow steps, add a choice condition like:

  • If: Was Sent Email → That Particular Email 
  • Then: Do Nothing
  • Else: Send Email

 

This way, if someone already received Email 1, they’ll be skipped — and only the remaining people will get it.

 

You can use similar logic for subsequent steps, or build a new smart campaign targeting only those who haven't received the next email in the flow.

A smart campaign is what it is.  If you abort it and re-run it, it'll start from the beginning.

 

You would be better off cloning the Smart Campaign, removing the initial steps, and running the new campaign instead.

 

It's worth noting that depending on how long it is since you aborted the initial campaign, the eligible people may have changed.  You might have to consider that in your new smart Campaign
