Set a trigger campaign for x days before opportunity close date

I need a way to set up a trigger campaign that can send emails x days before renewal, then y days before renewal etc. The only way I can think of to do this is in SFDC itself by adding some date fields of date - x days and then using that field in Marketo, but does anyone know if there is a way to do this within Marketo off the opportunity close date?
