Restrict Salesforce sync?

Is there anyway of turning on Salesforce sync but NOT pulling in all of the record data from Salesforce?

We have ~200,000 leads in salesforce that are by no means all marketable or clean, however we have ~50,000 leads in marketo that we want to maintain. Anytime I turn on the sync, it will pull in the leads that exist in salesforce but not in Marketo.

Is there anyway to stop this from happening without turning off sync?

Hey Joe,

You could set up sharing criteria in SFDC that restricts certain leads from syncing to Marketo. For example... you could share leads/contacts that have an @ symbol in their email address. Or another example would be sharing leads created after a certain date.

Hope this helps,

Hey Taylor,

Thanks for the response. So this is something that we can control within Salesforce?

Yep - you will need to have some admin rights though. Basically if you have a "Marketo" dedicated SFDC account, you restrict what leads/contacts that account can see. Then, when you turn on the sync with Marketo, only the leads that meet the criteria you set in SFDC will be passed over. It is a little bit tricky, but works when you get it set up properly.

Here is an article on sharing rules in Salesforce

I think the bigger issue here will be FIRST blocking field updates down in Marketo to key the fields once you allow the Salesforce data to sync down...

We recorded a video with ideas on how this can be done, it's in the university courses called Hide records from SFDC with the sync profile.
