Program Members vs Leads

What's the difference between program members and leads?  Should the number of members be same as the number of leads for a given program?  If I use the REST API to get the leads for a program, the number of leads in the response is different from number of members in the UI.

If I use the REST API to get the leads for a program,

REST API http://developers.marketo.com/documentation/rest/get-multiple-leads-by-program-id/  returns same number.

Thank you for your response.

I'm using the same API call to get the leads for programs.  The number of leads I get is different from the number of members in the UI.

Hi Michal,

You choose, which leads to add as members of a program.  You can be members of a smart campaign in a program and not be members of a program.  Depends what data you are pulling with your API call.
