Prevent leads from syncing to Marketo

Hello,

I am looking for a way to prevent certain leads from syncing to Marketo. They are currently in Marketo - therefore, I will delete them from Marketo but we want to keep them in Salesforce. However, how do I prevent these leads from syncing back to Marketo from Salesforce? I have read about potential creating a check box to prevent/allow leads from syncing to Marketo but I am not sure how to execute this. Any advice would be very helpful.

Thank you,
Erica

Hi Erica,

When you create a campaign to delete the leads in Marketo, in the flow step include Delete Lead > Remove from SFDC > False. This would delete your leads from Marketo and not SFDC.

Then you can create a trigger or daily reoccurance campaign that will delete any incoming leads from Marketo that include the deleted email addresses. You can include the email addresses in the smart list filter.

Hope that helps!

Hi Jodie,

Thank you for your insight. What if I just have a set list of leads to keep out of Marketo? Could I have Marketo look to see if the lead is a member of the list and then delete it? Or would that not work? Thank you!

Hi Erica,

You can set up a trigger campaign so that if a lead comes in Marketo and they are part of your exclusion list then they are automatically deleted from Marketo. In your smart list filter include email address contains: (list of your emails). In the flow step: delete lead > remove from SFDC > false.

Hope that helps!

Hi James,

Thank you for your reply. The only problem I see is that the number of leads that I am trying to prevent from syncing is quite large - in the thousands. I'm not sure that listing the emails in the smart campaigns will be a viable option. Thoughts?

Thank you again.

Hey Erica, did you ever resolve this? I have a similar issue and I'm looking for the best way to keep Salesforce-only leads from being synced to Marketo. It's a huge number as well.

Hi Liliana,

I just responded to a similar conversation.  You can prevent leads from syncing through permissions or sharing rules in SFDC, or you can open a support case to ask for a custom sync filter to be placed in your instance.  This would be a filer based on a custom field in SFDC like "Sync To SFDC"
