Possible to disable tokens?

I am trying to send an email of "helpful hints;" one hint includes code that needs to be written with the {} brackets. 

When I try to do this, Marketo is thinking this is a token (even though there is only one bracket on each side), causing the whole piece of code to disappear.

Is there a way to get around this? To disable to token? I have tried creating a token with the bracket & text in it, and still no dice.
