Phone number format is automatically modified in Marketo

Hi,

I've noticed that while syncing leads into Marketo, the Phone field reformats the phone number from (###)-###-### to ##########.
I'm wondering how this affects phone numbers when the leads are exported to either Salesforce or a .csv file. 

Is it possible to keep the original phone number formatting in the Phone field? I am syncing leads using the Marketo SOAP API with the syncMultipleLeads api call.

This is a special type of field in Marketo called "Phone".  One option would be to designate a custom field for this not using this type.

I am experiencing the same issue. We have been doing some data cleanup and modified phone numbers, but when updated and synched to SFDC, the "Marketo Integration" user (Marketo) changed these phone number values. I understand that Marketo is doing some reformatting, but I can't seem to find an article describing what this reformatting is and how it is applied.
