Outlook Emails not Displaying Properly

Hi all,

I'm sending sample emails to my Outlook inbox and for some reason...

A.) it's not recognizing the Padding/Margin code between text and image, but when I send sample to Gmail account it displays properly.

B.) The preview email feature in Marketo shows desired look but once it's delivered in my Outlook the spacing and formatting of paragraphs looks a lot different. However, in Gmail it displays correctly.

Any guess as to why that is?

Hi Tom,

Designing a responsive email template that works correctly on both outlook, gmail and IOS mobiles is an art and a science altogether...

You should use a template generator tool (Knak.io or hoosh) or adapt a Marketo template.

Here's a link to a blog article that explains Outlook's process for translating HTML and rendering:

  • Outlook will change the "px" values by converting them into "pt" values.
  • Outlook will also take into account DPI scaling based on the user settings.
