I want to know why I would get this message?

you should go to that campaign and check the flow. You are missing a value or it was typed in wrong. Maybe the token is empty somehow?

You need to use +5 or -5 or =5 to change a score. It's possible it was set to "5" and the score happened to be "5" at that moment.

Check and make sure both the name of the score field and the score value are populated in your flow step. 

Sometimes you'll copy and paste a field name in and it looks like everything is A-OK, but if you transition screens before the score field has time to look up and identify the value, it won't save and you'll have a blank.
