My Lead source change automatically without any action

Hi Marketo Community!

I find this very strange. We have arranged some seminars, and some leads has registred and that is fine. But suddenly the lead source change. See Old value to New Value. 



This is also a screenshot in SF. Maybe it is because the name of the Lead source is to long, so Marketo/SF make it shorter?

Oh you have Lead Source going to Opportunity not to Lead or Contact in SFDC.  Check if you have more than 1 Lead Source field set up.  Do you have full Admin access?  I'd guess so if you can see in the Field Management section.

I've just checked Marketo and you can't limit the string length.I'm just checking in SFDC for you.  Have you got any Smart Campaigns set up that change the Lead Source?  From the first picture you posted it does look like its updating from SFDC though.

Have you checked your string lenght for that field in Marketo and SFDC?  It might be restricted in one of them?

Another option is to Block the Lead Source Field from updating so even if it  does change in SFDC it won't change in Marketo?

I can't figure out how to know the string length for the field in marketo or SFDC

And block the lead source field is not possible?

Sorry, but I can't figure out why Lead Source value changes

Yes I have full admin access. 

It is this field im talking about:



And that is under "Leads" tab in SF. 

No we don't have any smart campaign that change the lead source, and that is why I find it strange.

From what I can see online, there is a maxiumum string length of 43 characters for some versions of SFDC.

One one my thoughts was that the reason is that it sync from SF, and it could be some kind of String length limit from SF and then it sync to Marketo, but I don't know.

So the field shuold be under "Lead Info" in Marketo under Field Management?

I canøt figure out what to do now when it's not the string length limit :/

Ohh, didn't see that because of the delay :)

I guess that is the problem then, the 43 characters. Where did find that information, Juli?

I found it on the SFDC developer site - so this must be your issue.  Although I do still find it odd that you're linking to source to opportunity.  We have ours mapping to SFDC Lead.
