Missing email copy from past template

I am having an issue with email campaigns. I went in to try to copy a used email template and it's letting us preview old emails but then when we hit Edit Draft there's no copy in it. It also seems that when we close the Edit Draft window, it erases the copy that was there. Does anyone know how to fix this issue in Marketo?

Are you trying to edit the template via Design Studio, or edit an email asset using a specific template? Some screenshots would help here.

I agree with @Carrie Chandler, some screenshots may provide better context.  I have seen some strange behavior in the past, when you edit the code of the email, because it breaks the connection/association with the original template.
