Merging Duplicate Contacts/Leads

Should we merge contacts in Marketo or SFDC?  Is there a benefit to merging in one program or the other?

Personally I think it is better to merge duplicates in SF.

However, this is just my personal preference but both work.

If you were to merge a lead in SF it will also merge the Marketo record and vice versa.

    Why do you think its better to merge in SF then in Marketo?

    I find SF to be more consistent.

    Every once in a while when you are merging duplicates in Marketo, it fails for an unknown reason. When trying to merge the same records in SF it works.

    There really is not a right answer, it's whatever you feel comfortable with.

    Just to add an obvious note: if a duplicate Lead is only in Marketo, you will have to merge it in Marketo (because at least 1 of the duplicate leads is not in SFDC).
