Mass Change Lead Source and Lead Source Detail

A list of around 500 new leads was uploaded into our Marketo last year, without lead source or lead source details.

I am now trying to change all the values in one mass update. I have tried to set up a batch smart campaign but it blocks out all those with a current lead source (which have been picked up since being entered last year through various other forms of activity/engagement). 

I tried pulling a smart list of all the members of the program then 'change data value' - lead source: Event but this just does nothing, even though it says complete. 

Is the only way to do it via a new upload in Salesforce?

I don't have any issues mass updating lead source of leads (even with our Salesforce.com sync).

Last week I also updated over 50.000 leads that were generated by our online marketing team (e.g. Adwords), but they were outside of my lifecycle campaign and didn't have a program to claim the acquisition and attribution. I created the programs and added the leads to it (including acquisition, progression, etc).

Hi Jessica -

I would keep trying in Marketo- I had to do something similar the other day (correct a Lead Source Detail).  When you ran your campaign, were there actual results listed?  If not, you'll want to check these fields in your Admin set-up to make sure that changes are not blocked specifically for "flow change data value" - your campaign would run, but nothing would happen to the data set.  Once I removed that specific block and re-ran my campaign, my lead source detail updated correctly according to my specifications.

Another way to do it is to export that list, add the new fields in excel then reupload list under lead database in marketo
