Marketo to SFDC lead syncing and duplications

Yes. If Marketo syncs a lead up to SFDC, it will create a new lead even if a similar lead exists in SFDC.

With that said, SFDC automatically syncs all leads/contacts down to Marketo while Marketo only syncs leads up to SFDC when it is told to. So if the lead exists in Salesforce, it will be easy to avoid duplication since you can just make changes to the lead already in Marketo.

So if the lead already exist in SFDC, and I run a campaign where a new lead comes into Marketo, which is new to Marleto but not SFDC. If I have a score threshold that pushes the lead from Marketo to SFDC even though that lead already exists in SFDC, a new lead will be created in SFDC, or a duplicate.

Yes. Why didn't that lead come from SFDC into Marketo when you did your initial sync? Are you only syncing certain leads from SFDC to Marketo?

If the lead had synced down from SFDC into Marketo initially then when the lead fills out the form or you do an import the exising lead that came from SFDC would be updated and the updates passed to the exisitng lead in SFDC, reulting in no dupes.

regarding leads and contacts which exist in SFDC. Marketo syncs leads to SFDC correct? but SFDC syncs leads and contacts into Marketo. how does the contact show up in Marketo, as a contact or lead?

A contact will show up in Marketo with the SFDC Type of Contact.

Leads in SFDC will appear in Marketo with an SFDC type of Lead.

Marketo will sync updates to and from contacts.

regarding your question. the contact may have been created by a sales person in SFDC. in that case it should still be synced across as a lead to marketo correct?
