Hi All,

Quick question - is it possible to create an email template in Marketo as one single module with multiple editable components within (like header, CTA, text….) so that when I duplicate it everything will be duplicated.

Your thoughts please!!

Thanks!

This is definitely possible, but I’m not sure I understand the use-case here.

If you wanted to setup a “layout” (a bunch of different modules with content in them), you could always use the “Clone” feature and just make a copy of that email then go in and edit the details. That would give you some flexibility to add/remove modules as needed when and if things change.

The only functional use-case I could see for something like this (one module for an entire email) would be if you wanted to lock users out from being able to add or remove any other modules to/from the layout for some reason.

Let me know if there is a specific use case you have in mind or if I’m maybe just misunderstanding your question and I’d be happy to share more thoughts on how to get something working for you.

Yes.
It is possible, but it then can create an issue when you don’t need an element included in the module, or you want to add another, such as another CTA button. Now you cannot drag a new module into that module.

Sometimes a new email from a template has every available module included which can be a nuisance when you only need 3 or 4 and need to delete 10 unwanted modules. If you want your email to have a standard layout and then you add/remove only a few modules, here is another approach.

Option A:  Use the mktoAddByDefault attribute. This attribute determines whether a specific module is automatically added to the canvas when a new email is created from a template.

  • mktoAddByDefault:
    • "true": The module is automatically included in the email canvas upon creation. (This is the default if the attribute is not included.)
    • "false": The module is hidden by default and must be manually dragged from the "Modules" tab into the email.

Example:

<table class="mktoModule" id="Hero" mktoName="Hero Img" mktoAddByDefault="false">
<!-- Module Content -->
</table>
  • Add a false value to all modules except the few you want to always include.

Option B:  Create a collection of the common email layouts you use most as assets in a “library” program or Design Studio. Then clone the desired email layout asset into your program.

Hi @Gayathiry1, yes it is possible.

But if you create only one modular section then there will be chances of confusion between multiple variables i.e. spacing, font size, multiple CTA variables

Best practices while creating emails in email editor 2.0 are

  1. Create a Master template and use modules in emails according to your requirement
  2. Maximum use of spacing variables and it will showcase only variables that will be used in the sections
