Why Marketo API returns "500 Internal Server Error"
in case of troubles?
Why not give explanation like "Invalid date" or "Required fields missing"?

It can be a temporary resource exhaustion, the reason the server could not be more specific on what the exact problem is.

We have noticed that this happens if requestTime (used for signature) is in the past,
but everything is ok if it is now or in the future

In normal circumstances an old requestTimestamp raises "20016 - Request expired" instead. 

requestTimestamp should never be older than 15 minutes. A new one must be obtained from the server.

What do you mean by saying "normal circumstances"?
Currently it raises "500 Internal Server Error" instead of "20016 - Request expired"

Just want to add that we also experienced the 500 server error today between 3:30 to 4:30 PM PST. Would like more explaination than just "resource exhaustion". Are you able to determine the cause?
