Marketo and GTW

Hi. I have been researching the following in regards to Marketo and GTW and have read some contradicting things. Does anyone have concrete answers as to what the BEST practices are?

1. In order to use GTW as successfully as possible, do I need to turn OFF the GTW confirmation, reminder, attendee followup, and absent followup?

2. Do we HAVE to use Marketo landing pages AND forms or is it just the Marketo forms that we need to use?

Thank you!

Hi Amanda,

As per integration, there is a really good and detailed technical manual on how to setup events Marketo + GTM, please find it here: http://pages2.marketo.com/rs/marketob2/images/Marketo_GoToWebinar_Adapter_UserGuide.pdf.

As you'll see in the manual, you have the option of using a Marketo or non-Marketo landing page for event, but the Registration form on the landing page must use a Marketo form to register your leads for the event or non-Marketo form with API integration to push lead registration data to Marketo. We always set it up with Marketo form hosted on Marketo page which we then include as iFrame on our web page.

I always send confirmation (with webinar URL token), reminder and follow up emails through Marketo and therefor I always disable all GTM email notifications. But if you won't be sending these emails through Marketo, you can leave them in GTM.

Hope this helps...

I recommend turning off the GTW based emails and doing it all from Marketo. As Sara pointed out, the Guide is very helpful in this regard.

Also, the Confirmation flow must have Change Progress Status=Registered at the top, before you send the email out, otherwise the {{member. url }} token won't work.

Sara,

I had read the set up guide but was still wondering as to what the best practices were, so thank you for answering!

Adding to Josh's point, turning off emails from GTW keeps the Marketo Flow intact. In case, we use the confirmation/reminder emails from GTW, we may end up sending multiple emails for a single objective - e.g. 2 confirmation emails.
