Marketo activity now appearing in Salesforce Activity History

I came across something unusual today, and hoping the community can help.

I noticed that sometime in late 2014 (from what I can tell), Salesforce (SFDC) started tracking my Marketo email activity in the lead/contact Activity History section in SFDC.  I don't believe this has always been the case, but I'm now seeing my marketo history synced over twice to SFDC...once in 'Campaign History' and once in 'Activity History' ?

Has anyone else experienced this issue?  I'm curious on why it started suddenly.  The end goal would be to stop the sync of marketo activity into the SFDC Activity History.

Thanks,
Todd

Hi Todd,

Some one or something must have made a change to the sync options under the Admin tab/Salesforce Sync Options.  You can adjust which activities you would like to be synced to Salesforce.

Here is a Help Article: https://community.marketo.com/MarketoTutorial?id=kA250000000Kz6VCAS

Does that help?

Thanks Nate, that's exactly what happened.  What's weird though, is that we noticed some inconsistency in the Activity History reporting.  Some email activity would get synced over, while some would not.  Not sure how to explain that unfortunately.

But I'm attaching screen shots of what our sync options settings were, which explains your solution above.  And then I added a screen shot for a lead that seems to be missing this activity history.  I have since, unchecked all the Activities checkboxes, so hopefully this activity history reporting will now stop.

Thanks again!

@Todd I haven't seen any activities drop out like that (bearing in mind that only the first activity of each type each day is synced, by design).

Are you sure those other emails weren't Sales emails?

Yes, the other emails in the red box are all marketing / marketo emails...and what's weird is that for some lead records those same emails created an activity history. I was trying to troubleshoot that way first, and couldn't find any type of pattern, then I learned about the admin settings which solved my issue, so I stopped digging.  weird stuff!

Hey Todd - we are having this same issue, especially at the account level where we are sending 50 different contacts on one account the same email. The activity is really clogging up the view for sales.

If we enable campaign Salesforce Campaign Sync but not activity history, will sales be able to see when someone clicked on an email in the status column under the Campaign section?

Thanks for your help! We are Salesforce newbies, so any advice is appreciated.

Hi Jamie.

Yes, but with extra steps.  We have to create separate campaigns to push that data over to SFDC.  Each campaign is simple, but time consuming... for example our Marketo smart list for opened uses the Opens Email trigger & flow step uses Change program status to email > opened.
