Marketing Calendar - adding direct entries without a parent OR changing the parent

I have been through all the documentation and the existing videos, but Calendar seems to have changed since these were put together, as the only way I can find to add a direct entry is by selecting an existing entry, which means that that new entry "inherits" the parent program from the entry that was selected. There doesnt appear to be a way to create a direct "basic entry" without selecting a previous entry or to change the parent a new direct entry "inherits" Any ideas?!
