Lead Source Updates on Import

I've spent LOTS of hours cleaning up 282 lead sources to a defined list of 15 and monitor them daily. I block updates to the field, etc. However when I import a list that contains lead source values I want to import them only if the field is blank, not overwrite values that exist. (same for lead source detail)

My workaround has been to import the list without the lead source/lead source detail values and then mass update the list with a choice for if the field is blank then change value to X. This works if all the leads on the list have the same possible lead source values on the import list. Does not work on an ad hoc basis.

I feel like I'm missing out an an ovbious a-ha! here. Am I?

Hi Kimi - maybe I'm missing something here, but it sounds like all you need to do is block those fields from updating when lists are imported: https://community.marketo.com/MarketoArticle?id=kA050000000KypCCAS

This will populate the field if it's blank, but won't overwrite it if there's already a value there.

OK that's what I thought but I was having some import issues. They must have just been glitches. I just ran some new tests and all is well. Excuse my moment of questioning the almighty Marketo. :)
