Lead Convert Creating MQLs

I'm curious if anyone has also run into this. I hadn't noticed it before, so it seems like a recent issue.

I slowly tracked the process of converting a lead to a contact in SFDC then watch the actions in Marketo. At first, the contact shows up as a duplicate, and then it later merges the records, but in doing so, re-kicks off the association with the campaigns the lead was on, and the score changes trigger an MQLing of the record.

Very confusing for the reps and equally as frustrating for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Is this something I need to talk to support about?

Hi Jackie Gragnola,

I could be wrong but that doesn't sound like proper behaviour to me, there is no need for the lead to come back as a contact and then merge.  There is a field in Marketo called "SFDC Type" which has three states, Lead, Contact or Empty (empty if its not in Salesforce). If it was a lead and became a contact the only real thing that needs to happen is for that field to update.

Without being in your system its hard to have more input.
