Lead and contact activity log

I was wondering what lead/contact will get the activity if the lead and contact have the same email address.

Mostly this process happens

  1. Lead in Marketo
  2. Lead gets points by activity
  3. In CRM we create a contact from that lead
  4. In Marketo we have a lead and contact with the same email address.

How does Marketo define if the activity of the lead or contact should be updated?

Gerard provides a good resource here, yet it can become confusing when sending an email or uploading via a list as to which person will be associated with that activity.

However, Nick, your question is concerning actual lead activity, which can only be associated to one lead via their unique ID. So if there are duplicate people in the system and one clicks a link in an email, only that person will be associated with that activity and score increase.
