I just took over managing our Marketo instance, and have been working to get up to speed.  We launched a website using Marketo forms, in which I thought leads were flowing into Salesforce, but it appears there are some issues. when an existing lead submitts a form from website that leads old information got chnaged in marketo and salesforce as well, is there any way to control this ? we don't want existing leads to be updated in salesforce or marketo .  Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Hi Kannan,

There is a block field updates option in Admin.
See the following article for more infomration:
https://community.marketo.com/MarketoArticle?id=kA050000000KypCCAS

This will allow you to block updates on a per field basis.

To block updates flowing from Marketo to SFDC then you should use field level security in SFDC to make sure the Marketo sync user has read only access to the field(s) in question.

I advise taking careful consideration and asking yourself why you would not want existing leads to be updated, blocking updates may lead you to miss out on more accurate information from your leads.

Agree with Cathal: updating existing leads is an important feature; there are some fields that are common candidates for blocking changes, such as lead source, but when a lead changes its data you should listen.
