Issue(s) with switching from SOAP API to REST API for Opportunities

For a number of years, we have been syncing our application with Marketo. When we create a Marketo Opportunity, we capture the ID from the created Marketo Opportunity record. When switching from SOAP to REST the SOAP ID is not equal to the marketoGUID; how do we determine the marketoGUID from an existing SOAP ID?
