Also, are there any alternatives to importing a list besides manually and the api?

Another thing to add, can list imports be automated?

Not directly, but Boomi (and other integrated middleware providers) can translate between FTP and our SOAP API.

In theory if you map an FTP server to a drive in Windows, you should be able to navigate to that drive and select the file for import using the Marketo UI.  You can read about doing this in the blog at http://lifehacker.com/304502/map-an-ftp-drive-in-windows.

The only other alternative to importing a file into Marketo is to import it into your CRM that is synched with Marketo.

To answer the second question about lists- there is an API (importToList) which you could use to automate them.

Thanks Eric & Elliott. We are going to test out your ideas and see what works for us.

If anyone is curious, this is Marketo Supports response regarding automated list imports,

"Part of the reason there is not an automated way to do this ties into the auto de duping function. I do recommend putting in the community that you would like to see other automated options so our developers know that is wanted, but it is not something we currently have at this time."
