Impact of Changing the length of an SFDC Text Field Synced to Marketo

We have a field in SFDC that is on both the Lead and Contact objects (mapped together) and is synced to Marketo. It's a text field with a length of 16. I need to make it longer. The field is in use in Marketo. Can I go into the SFDC and changed the length on the Lead and Contact versions of the field without causing a problem with the sync to Marketo?

What is the field type in Marketo? And how long do you intend to make the field in SDFC?

Text to text/string changes are usually smooth. You can anticipate trouble if you change from number to string and vice versa.

The change should not affect your sync.

Hi Louiza - Thank you! As I said, it's a text field in SFDC (so a string in Marketo) and I want to change the length from 16 to 24. I had guessed it wouldn't be a problem but wanted to be sure.

Denise Greenberg​ you're all good!
Interesting to note that if you go from larger to smaller length, it can be a problem as there can be data loss.

However if you go from smaller to larger and the field types are compatible, you're not going to affect the sync.
