How to assign leads or contacts to specific user in Marketo

Can anyone help me how we can assign a few companies or contacts to a Marketo users, please help me in this.

This can only be done if you have workspaces and partitions. Is this the case ?

We have team members in Marketo and If I want to assign some leads to specific Marketo use how should I do?
