How often will a lead see my RTP campaign?

Hi Community

I'm just getting started with RTP and have got a form pop-up campaign ready to go. Is anyone able to confirm to me how often this will be shown to a lead in the segment? For example, will the campaign only ever be shown to the lead once, or if they don't engage with it will it be shown again?

I've been through the docs and the entire community f RTP posts to try and find the answer but to no avail! I haven't found anywhere to define these rules in the setup either.

Thanks in advance!

Diana

That's configurable inside the segment.

Timing: Define the level of visitor engagement you want in your campaign

  • On Entry: Engage from the visitor arrives on the website
  • After 1st - 9th Click: Engage the visitor after a specific amount of clicks on the website

So you can create segments that say, OK, this looks like a high value target so I'm going to engage them immediately.

Another group you might want to treat more delicately, so you only target them after they've visited a bunch of pages.

You'll probably have lots of different iterations of the same segment based on these differences.

Thanks Nicholas. I have already defined that in the campaign, but I'm looking to understand the behaviour of Marketo once the campaign is live. If a lead visits a specific page and the form pops up, but they DON'T engage with it and just close it, will it be presented to them again either in the same session (which I'm guessing not!) or in any subsequent sessions?

Hi Diana Watts,

The default setting is that the lead will see the pop-up every time they visit the site for as long as they match the segment associated with the campaign.

We didn't want to have people to see the same lightboxes on our website every time so the best solution for this is to use the User Context API. It tracks views and clicks on campaigns so you can 1) Have users only see a pop-up every 10 visits or 2) Not see the pop-up for 10 visits after clicking on it.

There is no middle ground unfortunately but we decided to go with the User Context API method for a better user experience. There is an idea in the Marketo Community a while back asking for more control over the frequency of impressions.

Hi Diana,

My understanding and experience so far is that visitor lead will see one RTP campaign max per session. The visitor will see the first web campaign for which it qualifies.

I think, Same campaign shows up once in the session if he matches only one segment but if visitor matches some other segment too then he would see the another campaign in the same session.

For example: If campaign 1 is shown to user once he lands on the site and from a specific country, user sees it. But in the same session, if he matches other segment (e.g. on 3rd click and from the same country) then other campaign will also be shown.

Thanks for mentioning this, @Kamal Gir . I thought that was the case too but wasn't 100% sure.
