How does Marketo decide which name record to select when multiple email addresses?

When you upload as list into Marketo and an email is associated to 2 different people, how does Marketo decide which one it appends to? Both leads were already in Marketo database, entered in on same day 2 years ago. Email was addressed to Susan, but should have been Doug.

Marketo Support has always told me that the most recently updated record will be selected. I have never really bought this explanation, but I've heard it many, many times.

Thanks Eric, I have heard that as well. Does recently "updated record mean" something occured on their activity log?

Not necessarily. I believe it goes by the Last Modified field. New info my sync without an entry on the activity log.
