Have you seen your SPAM leads dramatically increased?

I have seen an 300%+ increase int he amount of SPAM leads coming in thru the Marketo forms in the last couple of days.
Outside of creating a hiden field on the form, has anyone come up with a great way to weed out the SPAM?

Hi Janet,

Marketo has an inbuilt spam protector and I cannot say I've seen any sort of dramatic increase recently. The best recommendation if you are suffering from a persistant spam issue is to contact support. They can look into who it is and work to fix the problem (not just for you but for anyone who may be targetted next).

Good luck!

Hello Janet!

Marketo does contain protection from junk form fillouts, but something is definitely getting by here.  I'll make a support ticket for you and start investigating.

I second Tony stating Marketo has a built-in feature to prevent bogus form fill outs.

That is primarily done by JavaScript. A person targeting a specific instance would set up a spambot bypassing the validation.

The solution is fairly quick and simple: add  JavaScript validation to the header of your landing pages.

Tony - can you please investigate and let me know.

I will work on adding the Javascript instituted later as I am going to be re-doing my forms/landing pages, but the amount of SPAM getting into my database is just not normal period.

I have multipe issues over the last week that are a tad frustrating.

Can it be instance specific or server specific?

1. SPAM attack
2. Lead Source not working as expected (unless something is going on that I and Marketo support have not figured out)
3. Social sign-on on form was automatically unsubscribing people and not requiring appropriate fields (I believe engineering fixed the unsubscribe issue but it is still not acting as it should with requiring fields).

Hi Janet,

I'm seeing the same thing.  Most ot the spam seems to be coming from a specific IP which is a known "Content Spammer".

For some reason the article on Javascript validation isn't showing.

Has anyone tried usind DNS blacklists?

So far, this is only affecting one landing page on my site.
