Is there a way to tell which Lists and Smart Lists a specific lead or set of leads are members of?

No there is no easy way to say, show me all lists that include Lead123.

You can create a custom view in the Activity Log to show you everytime they were added to (and removed from) a list. There isn't a way to see which smart lists they are a part of.
