Error 616: Access denied due to invalid subscription type

Getting this error when I try to create a custom object via the REST API (rest/v1/customobjects/schema.json) despite my API user having all the required permissions. I couldn't find anything for code 616 in the documentation either. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Do have a "lite" Marketo subscription? (Used to be called "Spark" but that may have changed.)

The only way to know for sure is to contact your CSM.
