Engagement Programs: Smart list and program membership

If I create a smart list within an engagement program, it shows the members of the smart list as members of the program.

Does this mean that without running a campaign to add the smartlist members to a stream they will start receiving emails when the campaign is activated?

We have always created a smart list within the program and references the list under the first campaign stage and the emails to be sent under the second stage of the campaign.

Never tested this, but with complex processes I don't like to assume. And I want to make it transparant for other people using Marketo (after me). I would still add a flow step to fysically Add To Engagement Program. Just in case.

I believe you have to Add to Engagement Program to make them Members and for them to receive content.

If you created a smart list as a local asset, then they are showing as Members because they are members already. Check your filters.

I have not heard of a smart list making someone a member without a campaign or if you selected smart list leads and manually said "Add to Program"
